Local Anesthesia

Do I have to get a shot for my dental treatment?

The techniques and materials of modern dentistry can preclude the need for anesthetic. If any discomfort is anticipated, we do recommend the use of local anesthetic (shots), which is still the safest, most predictable way to control pain.

Are their any alternatives to shots for pain free dental treatment?

Different techniques are evolving using lasers, air abrasion, and electronically delivered anesthesia. The most predictable method still uses local anesthetic. General anesthesia, Nitrous Oxide (N2o - laughing gas) is available on a referral basis for people requiring more involved procedures, extraction under sedation or the true dental phobic patients.
