    • Foods and Drink That Whiten Teeth and Improve Oral Health
The best way to get whiter teeth is through good oral hygiene, periodic dental cleanings, and professional teeth whitening. But did you know certain food can also assist in whitening your teeth?  Here is a list of six food and drinks that should be part of your diet for a happy and healthy mouth. 1. Strawberries: Strawberries have a high malic acid concentration often found in certain kinds of toothpaste. Malic acid works like a natural astringent and helps remove tooth surface discoloration. It is important to note that citric acid is also found in strawberries and weakens the enamel. Thus, you should wait at least 30 minutes after consuming strawberries and other acidic food to brush your teeth. 2. Apples, Celery and Carrots: Crunchy fruit and vegetables, like apples, celery, and carrots, can scrub away plaque and bacteria, stimulate saliva production, and provide good sources of vitamins and minerals that strengthen your teeth. 3. Leafy Greens: Leafy greens, like spinach, romaine lettuce, and kale contain folic acid (B9 vitamin), which is necessary for cell growth and repair,…

    • Bottle Vs Tap Water: Which One is Better for Your Teeth?
While clean teeth are certainly important to prevent cavities and keep those pearly whites in the optimum state of good health, any dentist will tell you there's another important factor. Water is an imperative source of fluid to prevent dehydration. In most communities, the choice is between bottle water or tap water. It makes a difference because of the mineral fluoride. MINERALS MATTER Although food is an excellent source of many minerals, so is water, which contains the minerals leached from the ground during rainfall. One of the most important is fluoride, which is known to help prevent tooth decay. Scientists discovered this important quality when they noticed people who lived in areas where the soil was naturally high in fluoride had less tooth decay. BOTTLE WATER Water from a bottle is unquestionably better than sodas or other sugary drinks from the standpoint of oral health. However, during processing bottled water is often subject to reverse osmosis or distillation. Intended to take out substances that can affect the flavor of the water, both of these…

    • Baby Teething Comfort Tips
As your baby’s teeth begin to come in, you may notice that their gums are suddenly red. They will also likely be sore and tender to the touch, which can cause a variety of behavioral changes in your child. Teething toddlers may be irritable and fussy, have trouble sleeping, lose their appetite, drool more than usual, and try to gnaw on hard objects. In some cases, your toddler may also have a low fever--below 101°. It is important to note that diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, a rash, or a fever of a 101° or higher are not normal signs of teething. While teething is a necessary stage of growth, there are a few things you can do to help your child through this. Give them something cold: Allowing your baby to put something cold in their mouths can help soothe the tenderness associated with teething. However, you should avoid frozen items because they can damage your baby’s newly erupted teeth. Instead, try using a cold pacifier, wet washcloth, or a teething ring made of rubber.  Feed…

    • What is Cone Beam (CT)?
Dental cone beam computed tomography  (CT) is a special type of x-ray machine used in situations where regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. This type of CT scanner uses a special type of technology to generate three dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. Images obtained with cone beam CT allow for more precise treatment planning. Getting a cone beam CT scan is fast, comfortable, and requires no special preparation.  Cone Beam CT vs. Conventional CT: Cone beam CT is not the same as conventional CT. A dental CT scan emits a lot less radiation than a traditional CT scan. A Cone Beam CT scanner uses a medical fluoroscopy tube that is low power. A lower power level means lower radiation around the patient. Benefits: A 3D Cone Beam CT helps provide much more information than a conventional X-ray. It is steadily becoming one of the most used scans in the dentistry industry. A 3D Cone Beam scan is invaluable for dentists…
