Sealants

What are sealants?

Sealants are a clear or white plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (premolars and molars). The purpose of sealants is to aid in the prevention of decay in these highly susceptible areas.

Do I need a shot for sealants?

No, sealants are placed on the grooves and irregularities on the chewing surface of the tooth. They require little or no preparation prior to placement.

How long do sealants last?

Sealants will last many years before another application may be required. We do not consider sealants as permanent restorations, but as an ongoing preventative procedure.
